Qosmos Sponsors New White Paper by Heavy Reading that Highlights the Value of Layer 7 Visibility for vCPE Services

Qosmos Announces the Publication of a White Paper and a Live Webinar on Virtual Customer Premise Equipment (vCPE) Services

Paris, France – February 10, 2016 – Qosmos®, the market leader in the market leader in DPI-based IP traffic classification and network intelligence technology for use in physical, SDN and NFV architectures, today announced the release of a new white paper, “Layer 7 Visibility for Virtual CPE”, prepared by Gabriel Brown, Senior Analyst at Heavy Reading, on behalf of Intel and Qosmos. Heavy Reading, Intel and Qosmos will present selected findings of the white paper during a live webinar on February 10, 2016.

The white paper explores how operators can use application-level information to offer new and value-added vCPE services. In particular, it addresses how Layer 7 IP classification engines can be incorporated in vCPE deployments to enable key use-cases. While many articles discuss how vCPE technologies can deliver existing services in simpler and cheaper ways, this white paper focuses on opportunities for new services.

“Typically, operators use IP and Ethernet headers to steer flows to the desired networking functions. This works well for the majority of services, but can be coarse-grained,” said Gabriel Brown, Senior Analyst at Heavy Reading. “In some cases there is a need for a more granular routing – for example, to optimize specific application performance, to undertake QoE monitoring, or to look for anomalies that may permit security breaches. In these cases, a Layer 7 IP Classification engine, embedded in the infrastructure, can be valuable.”

Systems integrators and solution vendors can leverage the Qosmos ixEngine® to rapidly build vCPE solutions for service providers, data centers, and enterprises. Qosmos ixEngine provides IP classification up to Layer 7, based on real-time application and subscriber information. It is easily integrated into vCPE solutions to offer stronger security, QoS and reporting.

Key areas covered by the white paper:

Quick survey of market activity for vCPE and software-defined VPNs
Architecture and deployment scenarios
Benefits of Layer 7 visibility for vCPE & cloud VPN services
Layer 7 firewall use case
VNF service chaining use case
Customer reporting use case
