Qosmos FAQ

What does Qosmos do?

Qosmos provides visibility into real-time data transactions on networks. Based on next generation Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) technology, Qosmos “Network Intelligence” (NI) technology extracts, captures and translates specific information from network traffic with unparalleled precision and detail.

What is DPI?

Deep Packet Inspection translates network traffic into instructions and information, making it possible to find, identify, classify, reroute or block packets (units of data) between an origin and a destination. DPI is fundamental, pervasive and powerful technology used inside a wide range of communications, security, business and consumer applications.

What is Network Intelligence Technology?

Qosmos’ NI Technology translates raw data streams of network traffic into actionable information. It identifies the hundreds of protocols (instructions) that synchronize data transmission across networks, and thousands of metadata (data about the data) elements that describe the information contained in IP packets (units of data).

The ability to extract metadata from traffic streams is the core innovation of Qosmos technology – making networks true information sources.  DPI + metadata allow the understanding of relationships within and between the layers of network traffic for a complete picture of data’s purpose, use and value.

What's the need for NI Technology?

The volume and complexity of traffic has grown exponentially in today’s Network Economy for communication, commerce and collaboration.  In response, networks require an orchestration of increasingly sophisticated and specialized technologies to optimize, secure and monetize data transactions and network performance.

NI Technology enables the visibility needed in today’s “Network Economy” to:

  • Ensure on-demand access to information from any networked device
  • Protect systems and critical infrastructure from breaches, viruses and malware and cyber attacks
  • Safeguard citizens, businesses and governments from crime and terrorism
  • Enable new consumer and business services and applications

Who uses Qosmos technology? How and where is is deployed?

Qosmos customers are Network Equipment Providers, Software Vendors and Systems Integrators who integrate its components (available as a software development kit or hardware probes) into solutions where real-time intelligence is critical. Qosmos NI technology is used in communications infrastructure and applications (quality of service, subscriber analytics, traffic management), security (firewalls, lawful intercept, cyber defense), business (market research, real-time analytics) and consumer (video streaming, gaming) applications.

What's unique about Qosmos?

Qosmos’ NI Technology transforms networks into information sources and enables entirely new services and applications.

  • Qosmos is a “pure play” independent vendor specialized in next-generation DPI technology. Its component technology adapts to many different use cases/applications – from network infrastructure and communications to business and consumer applications – where granular visibility into network traffic is essential to enable better security, accuracy, performance and/or monetization.
  • Qosmos operates within a horizontal OEM business model serving the technology community. Qosmos disruptive technology enables vendors to create new services, applications and business models – made possible by the information only Network Intelligence can provide – and reduces risks, costs and time to market with advanced solutions previously based on DPI alone.
