Utimaco chooses Qosmos to provide Network Intelligence for Lawful Intercept solution

October 12, 2009

Summary

Utimaco has integrated Qosmos ixMachine Network Intelligence probes for deeper network analysis, higher throughput and up-to-date protocol enhancements. Telecommunications service providers are now able to deliver next-generation legal investigative capabilities to Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs).

Paris, France/Aachen, Germany – 12 October, 2009 – Qosmos, the industry leader in network intelligence technology and Utimaco, a leading global provider of lawful interception systems, today announced that Utimaco has chosen Qosmos ixMachine for its LIMSTM (Lawful Interception Management System) solution. With ixMachine probes, Utimaco, a member of the Sophos Group, is able to strengthen its Lawful Interception solution with a deeper level of information extraction than before, thanks to ETSI-compliant Qosmos probes that deliver higher throughput and easy integration within existing network environments.

Utimaco LIMS is a certified and industry proven solution for telecommunications service providers to assist LEAs in executing court-ordered electronic surveillance. The system monitors telecommunications services and provides electronic interfaces to monitoring centers within LEAs. Qosmos ixMachine Network Intelligence technology enhances Utimaco’s Lawful Interception solution with the ability to parse communication flows and link them to a suspect’s range of virtual online identities. As a result, Utimaco’s service provider customers can now provide LEAs with a powerful solution to deeply analyze a wider range of IP-based communications in the course of court-ordered investigations.

“Real-time visibility of communications is a critical requirement that Law Enforcement Agencies demand from our service provider customers,” says Malte Pollmann, General Manager, Utimaco LIMS. “In many investigations, the network itself is the only practical location where information can be identified. Incorporating Qosmos Network Intelligence technology into our LIMS solution allows service providers to capture and correlate data as it moves over their network, which means that LEAs get an accurate picture of suspected criminal activities while in process, as well as analytical capabilities that strengthen their investigations.”

The choice of whether to “make or buy” the technology it needed for its LIMS solution was an important one for Utimaco, who needed to respond to market pressures for deeper, more responsive analysis. “Partnering with Qosmos enabled us to deploy powerful Network Intelligence functionality more quickly and cost-effectively than if we had chosen to create and manage it in-house,” continues Malte Pollmann. “The Qosmos team designed probe packages customized for specific types of communications that can be added to the solution according to our customers’ needs, and assisted with the installation of the first system with Qosmos probes on schedule at a European service provider.”

“Law Enforcement Agencies need cutting edge technology in order to ensure public safety and security,” said Thibaut Bechetoille, Qosmos CEO. “Qosmos enables vendors such as Utimaco to improve their solutions’ effectiveness in detecting and tracking unlawful activities through real-time visibility into network events, ultimately empowering LEAs to better protect the public.”

Qosmos and Utimaco will present their products at ISS Americas in Washington (October 12 – 14). For more information, go to http://www.issworldtraining.com/ISS_WASH/ .
