I recently attended the Broadband World Forum in Paris and had several interesting discussions which showed that network intelligence is really becoming a hot topic in the telecoms world. I spoke to equipment manufacturers, software vendors and service providers, who all confirmed that network intelligence technology is an absolute must to optimize mobile networks, monetize telecom services, and secure networked assets.
The feedback I received also made clear the difference between Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and Network Intelligence Technology:
Deep Packet Inspection:
- Developed internally by some vertical solution vendors for their own needs
- The focus is on recognizing type of traffic
- Used mainly by equipment and solution vendors for routing, traffic optimization, etc.
Network Intelligence Technology:
- Enabling technology developed by pure players (like Qosmos) and sold as building blocks to equipment vendors, solution vendors and systems integrators
- Beyond recognizing traffic, the focus is on extracting information (metadata) from communication flows
- Provides detailed visibility on network-based activity to solutions such as charging, policy management, revenue assurance, mobile analytics, network optimization, data retention, etc.
In this issue of QosmosNote, we describe how network intelligence can boost charging and policy solutions. Enjoy!
Thibaut Bechetoille, CEO
Qosmos Network Intelligence technology is the perfect way to strengthen charging and policy solutions with real-time detection of detailed data as it transits a telecom operator’s network. It allows charging and policy vendors to focus on their core business and reduce time-to-market by relying on Qosmos to provide detailed visibility at network, service, application, device and user levels.
